Port Blair, Feb 23: The 500 capacity passenger and cargo vessel MV Nalanda which is being constructed at Cochin Shipyard has completed its Dock trails and will soon perform its sea trials, hopefully in the first week of March 2022, sources said.
The Dock trials of MV Nalanda reportedly started a week ago.
When Andaman Sheekha Daily contacted Director of Shipping Services he said that once the sea trials are completed then the ship will be handed over to Andaman and Nicobar Administration.
“Sea trail consists of three phases, first is the harbor trial then sea trail static and there the ship will go out in open sea,” he added.
Ageing fleet ships for the Inter-Island sector is a major concern for the people of Andaman and Nicobar Islands as throughout the year most of these ships remain out of service either for Annual Survey or for other repair works.
After the arrival of MV Sindhu, the Shipping Services faced some teething problems in sailing of the ship but now as the ship is more or less fit and serving the Islands. Bringing further relief, now it seems MV Nalanda is also getting ready for Andaman and Nicobar Islands.
