Port Blair, Feb 20: The Communist Party of India (Marxist) has released its Election Manifesto for election to the Port Blair Municipal Council and Panchayat-raj institutions today (20.02.2022) at Port Blair. Elections to these bodies will be held on 6th March, 2022. Releasing the Manifesto, Mr. KG Das, Secretary, CPI(M) A & N State Organising Committee said that the Party is fighting against the BJP and Cong (I) which ruled the Port Blair Municipal Council and almost all the Panchayat-raj institutions ever since the formation of 3-tier Panchayat raj system in the islands in 1995. CPI (M) has included 27 items in its Manifesto.
Party has promised to strive to grant Unemployment Allowance to all the unemployed local youths as done in States like Kerala, to strive to fill up all vacant posts under the A & N Administration, to regularize the services of all daily rated mazdoors and contract workers, to strive for establishment of Legislative Assembly on the Puducherry model for A & N Islands, to review Property Tax Policy to give relief to tax payers, to pursue with Govt of India to set up IT based industries in the islands, transparent and corruption-free Municipal Council and Panchayat-raj institutions, etc.
CPI (M) has fielded candidates in 8 Wards in the Port Blair Municipal Council elections while candidates in the Zilla Parishads, Panchayat Samiti and Gram Panchayat constituencies have been put up in many of the areas in the union territory of Andaman and Nicobar Islands.
CPI (M) leaders Mr. D. Ayyappan, Mr. D. Laxman Rao and Dr Gauranga Majhi were also present at the function to release the Manifesto.
