Diglipur, Nov 18: As part of the World Diabetes Day a free Diabetes camp was organized by Diabetic care clinic & diagnostic centre of Port Blair with cooperation at Subhash gram Panchayat, Diglipur on 18th November from 7 am to 2pm. Free screening, consultation was provided by Dr. Namrata Lal, MBBS. D Diab, F Diab, C Diab. The main aim of this free camp was to create awareness among the people about the disease and how it can be controlled, delayed and avoided.
As more and more people are becoming conscious about their health and fitness there was good response from the people of Diglipur . Blood sugar test of all the patients was performed by physicians and refreshment was also made available on the spot to the people. Altogether 170 people were diagnosed today.
WHO estimates that nearly 200 million people all over the world suffer from Diabetes and this number is likely to be doubled by 2030. Another shocking fact is that, about 80% of the diabetes deaths occur in middle-income countries. The theme for the period 2009-2013 is ‘Diabetes education and prevention’.
