Port Blair, Dec 24: The recent move of Andaman and Nicobar Administration and Andaman and Nicobar Police to come down heavily on the people running their vehicles without PUC Certificate has triggered a sense of panic among the residents of South Andaman. People out of panic and fear of heavy challan are making beeline near three known pollution testing points for PUC certificate. For this, many have to leave office and other important works and in most of the cases people have to stand for hours to get a PUC Certificate. “This is nothing just harassment to common man in name of pollution control. The Administration must understand the ground reality first before pressurizing Islanders for any such certificate,” said an Islander.
With only three known Pollution testing points in city area, the Administration should have started an awareness drive for public to get PUC certificates and not a challan drive.
Such decision is only causing panic among general public. The Islanders are now requesting the Chief Secretary to order the Transport as well as Science and Technology Department to increase pollution testing points for vehicles to atleast 20 in South Andaman area and then give a time line of few weeks to Islanders for PUC certificate.
