Port Blair, Dec 15: Mr. Paritosh Halder, Former-Member of A & N Pradesh Council has received a reply from the Shipping Corporation of India Ltd. regarding his earlier complaint letter, in which he had demanded for an inquiry on MV Sindhu’s technical faults.
SCI in a reply to Mr. Halder stated that the Passenger vessel SINDHU is a 500 Passenger and 150T Cargo vessel built by M/s Cochin Shipyard Ltd. for A&N Administration under Make in India program.
The concept design of the vessel was developed by passenger ship designer M/s Knud E. Hansen; Denmark hired by the builder M/s. Cochin Shipyard Lid. The basic design was carried out by M/s Smart Engineering Design Solutions, Kochi hired by M/s. Cochin Shipyard Ltd. Detail and production designs are carried out in-house by M/s Cochin Shipyard Ltd.
The letter further stated that the model tests along with CFD analysis for assessment of Resistance, Powering, Crabbing, Seakeeping, and Maneuverability) for the vessel were conducted at MARIN, Netherlands hired by M/s. Cochin Shipyard Ltd, which is considered to be one of the best model testing facilities in the world. The results of model tests including CFD calculations were satisfactory.
About the grievance made by Mr. Halder, the SCI has pointed out that the model tests along with CFD analysis for assessment of Resistance, Powering, Crabbing, Seakeeping, and Maneuverability) for the vessel was conducted at MARIN, Netherlands hired by M/s. Cochin Shipyard Ltd, which is considered to be one of the best model testing facilities in the world. The results of model tests including CFD calculations were satisfactory.
The letter further stated that the Vessel was delivered to A&N Administration on 27 March 2021 after completion of exhaustive tests & trials (both at the quay as well as at sea including maneuverability tests which were carried out successfully in presence of surveyors from Mercantile Marine Department, Kochi, Indian Register of Shipping and American Bureau of Shipping.
“The incident on 25 Aug 2021 is the first incidence where it was reported that the vessel is having some issue. The matter was taken up with the builder M/s. Cochin Shipyard Ltd. Close coordination is being made with Builder M/s. Cochin Shipyard Ltd. and Andaman & Nicobar Administration to resolve the reported issue systematically on a priority basis”, the letter mentioned.
