Port Blair, Dec 15: The District Child Protection Unit, South Andaman organised a programme to create awareness on Adoption as per Adoption Regulation 2017 on Tuesday at PHC Garacharma for the Health Staff including ANMs, PHN and CHO. Member- Child Welfare Committee and Senior Medical Officer, PHC Garacharma were present in the program.
The gathering was informed that all adoptions whether Prospective Adoptive Parent/ Relative Adoption/ Step Parent shall be registered in ‘Child Adoption Resource Information and Guidance System’ of Central Adoption Resource Authority (CARA).
Through this awareness program, the participants were also sensitized on the procedure relating to Orphan, Abandoned and Surrender of children who can be declared legally free for Adoption and restored through adoption. The participants were encouraged to inform cases related to such children found if any to the District Child Protection Unit or the Child Welfare Committee immediately so that direct adoptions can be avoided.
An open discussion was conducted wherein queries and concerns raised by the participants were clarified by the team of DCPU and Member CWC. The program concluded with a feedback session to assess the knowledge of the participants through an assessment tool. The District Administration ensures to organise such informative session for the Health Workers and other frontline staff working at grass root level so as to mitigate direct Adoption.
