Port Blair, Nov 15: The A&N State Social Welfare Board celebrated Children’s Day on 14th Nov., 2012 at 10.00 a.m. in the Creche Centre run by the Forest Labour Welfare Society, Haddo, Port Blair by organizing songs poems and dance by the Creche Children. Shri Jay Kumar Nair, Councillor Port Blair Municipal Council, Ward No. 1 was the Chief Guest on this Occasion.
Smt. Ratna Kannan, Chairperson, A&N State Social Welfare Board presented bouquet to the Chief Guest. The portrait of late Pt. Jawahar Lai Nehru was garlanded by Smt. Ratna Kannan. While addressing the participants Smt. Ratna Kannan, Chirperson, Social Welfare Board told about Pt. Jawaharlal Nehru’s love towards children and blessed them to achieve the heights of their loving Chacha. She also threw lights on the life of Pt. Jawahar Lai Nehru , the 1st Prime Minister of India. His love for children was evident and hence his birth clay is celebrated as Children’s Day. Smt. Ratna Kannan, Chairperson appreciated the Secretary and members of the Forest Labour Welfare Society for their co-operation to make the programme a grand success.
More than 60 children were present on the occasion dressed in various colours.
The Chief Guest , Shri Jay Kumar Nair, Councillor Ward No. 1 appreciated the Chairperson, A&N State Social Welfare Board for organising such a befitting programme on the eve of Children’s Day and giving him the opportunity to be the Chief Guest. The Chief Guest further suggested that such programmes should be organized in future also so that the children can learn more. The children were distributed gifts and sweets by the Smt. Ratna Kannan, Chairperson, A&N State Social Welfare Board, Port Blair. The members of the works committee were also present on the occasion and applauded the efforts of the A&N State Social Welfare Board.
Smt. Meena Kumari, teacher and Smt. Parwati, helper of the Creche unit were also praised by the Chairperson, A&N State Social Welfare Board for their enthusiastic participation in the programme. The programme concluded with the vote of thanks of Shri Pottaiah, Secretary, Forest Labour Welfare Society Haddo Port Blair.
