Port Blair, Nov 24: The District Child Protection Unit (DCPU) under District Administration, South Andaman celebrated “Child Rights Day” at Child Care Institute Balika Niketan, Attam Pahad on Wednesday as part of the 75th Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav.
The theme of the year’s celebration is “A Better Future for Every Child”. The main aim of the program was to sensitize Children about their rights viz. Right to Survival, Right to Protection, Right to Participation and Right to Development. The children were also sensitized on the responsibility of children towards their family, elders and towards the Nation and encouraged to contribute in safeguarding environment. Advocate Siddhartha Singha, interacted and sensitized the 22 children participated in the programme from Balika Niketan. Earlier also, similar program was conducted at Seva Niketan on 20th November 2021, where 41 children were sensitized.
The District Administration has planned to conduct such programs regularly so as to educate children that each child is unique and have the privilege to stand in society with dignity and pride.
