Port Blair, Nov 22: The Andaman & Nicobar AIDS Control Society conducted a mainstreaming training programme on HIV/AIDS, HIV/AIDS Act 2017, Blood Donation Motivation and Condom Promotion at Police Motor Transport last Saturday. More than 70 officers and staff attended the programme, which was conducted under the supervision of Dr. M. Joy, Project Director, A & N AIDS Control Society.
Mr Girish Kumar, AD (SPM) A & N AIDS Control Society informed about the causes and the consequences of the HIV/AIDS-STDs and the measures and steps to prevent this disease and achieve the objective of getting to zero. He also motivated the gathering for Voluntary Blood Donation, shared the importance and benefits of blood donation. The knowledge of preventing discrimination and stigma against HIV/AIDS was also imparted.
The whole programme was organized and coordinated by Mr Harendra Kumar Rai, Counselor and Smt. Lalitha Toppo, Counselor. The participants were exhorted to come forward for ‘Knowing their HIV Status” by voluntarily getting tested themselves. The test report if found positive will be dealt confidentially for care and support.
