Port Blair, Nov 21: As the nation is celebrating “Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav”, to commemorate 75 years of glorious history of its independence and achievements, a Cycle Rally was organized by India Reserve Battalion of A&N Police on Saturday from the iconic National Memorial Cellular Jail to Carbyn’s Cove beach. The rally was flagged off by S. K. Jain, IGP/L&O. senior officers of the A & N Police, Mr Narra Chaitanya, Commandant, IRBn, Mr Kalaivanan, SDPO, South Andaman, Mr J Senthil and Mr Narasimha Moorthy, Assistant Commandants of IRBn also participated in the event. Altogether, 105 cyclists from various walks of life comprising IRBn jawans, professional cyclists, civilians and children took part in the Cycle Rally and displayed enthusiasm.
On completion of the rally, the chief guest thanked all the participants and encouraged them particularly children to inculcate the habit of cycling to be physically fit, agile and ‘Go Green’ to have pollution free atmosphere in these pristine emerald islands. Commandant, IRBn motivated the jawans to promote ‘Fit India’ and also congratulated them for successful conduct of the event. He also thanked professional cyclists and children for participating. All protocols related to prevention and containment of spread of COVID-19 was observed during the event.
