Port Blair, Nov 18: A large number of People of the Mayabunder region today staged a protest at Mayabunder Bazaar by blocking roads against unavailability of Specialists and shortage of Doctors in the Dr. RP Hospital Mayabunder and demanded to fill-up the vacant posts of Doctors and Specialists without delay.
As per information received today early in the morning a group of people gathered at Mayabunder Bazaar and blocked the roads as a mark of protest. The protesters demanded Doctors and Specialists along with technical equipments for the hospital. Protesters expressed their anguish towards the Administration for not taking any favourable action in this regard, as these demands were raised earlier.
However, when Andaman Sheekha contacted Mrs. Anjali Sehrawat, the Deputy Commissioner of North and Middle Andaman, she said that she accepts the fact that there is a shortage of Doctors and Specialists at Dr. RP Hospital, Mayabunder but this grievance of the public has been already communicated to authorities concerned.
The Directorate of Health and Secretary Health has already given assurance that the specialists have been recruited on a contractual basis and selected candidates have been issued orders to join in duty. “The specialists will report on duty within one month as per giving joining time”, she added.
She further pointed out that even after giving clarity on this issue through print media and local newspapers, such protest has been organized by blocking roads.
“People should introspect whether this protest was needed or not,” she added.
The administration has already taken all necessary steps to solve this problem and hence there was no need for this protest, she added.
She mentioned that show-cause notices will be served to those who have taken mike permission but instead of organizing only meeting they have blocked road. “If required necessary action shall be initiated against those, who are indulged in blocking the road, which is causing difficulties to the General Public,” the DC added.
