Port Blair, Nov 14: A Special Conference of the Non-Gazetted Government Officers’ Association was held on 13th November, 2021 at Port Blair. The conference was organized following Covid protocol. A small number of delegates drawn from various Branches and Sub-committees of the Association working in South Andaman were physically attended the Conference. Whereas other delegates from South Andaman and outstations joined the meeting in VC mode. The Special Conference started by floral tributes at a specially erected martyr’s column near the venue. In his inaugural address Mr. P Sathyapal, Assistant Secretary, A & N Administration recalled the struggles made by the leaders of the NGOs’ Association like Com. P.K.S.Prasad for the facilities which are being enjoyed by the government employees now. He also urged the employees to fight against the growing trend of mass privatization and outsourcing of services.
The Delegate Session through a resolution presented by Mr. Anand Raj , paid homage to the memory of trade union leaders and other government employees, who passed away during the period since last Conference. It also paid tributes to lakhs of people died, all over the world, due to the Covid pandemic. Mr. R Rajendran,in his presidential address exhorted employees working under A & N Administration for a united struggle to achieve various pending demands. Thereafter, Mr. T.S.Sreekumar, General Secretary presented the working report of the Association for the intervening period after the last conference while Mr. E A Johnson, Finance Secretary of the Association presented the Audited Accounts. General Secretary’s report contained an overview of the International, National, Local situations and details of the programmes conducted by the Association during the intervening period.
Delegates from various Branches and Sub-Committees actively participated in the discussion on the General Secretary’s Report and Audited Accounts which were later on adopted unanimously. The draft resolutions on various issues and problems affecting the government employees were presented in the meeting by Mr. S L Vinjit which was adopted after addition of various other resolutions presented by the delegates during the discussion. A presidium comprising Mr. R Surendran Pillai and Smt. Suma Nair conducted the proceedings of the Conference.
Addressing the Conference, Mr. D Ayyappan, General Secretary, A & N Gazetted Officers’ Association appreciated the members of the Non-Gazetted Govt. Officers’ Association for the exemplary work done by them during the Pandemic period. He also urged Govt. employees to organize united movements to protect the hard earned benefits achieved through protracted struggles.Mr. P Jaymurthy,T S Premlatha,Indira Devi,Sashikumar,Usha Rajendran,etc addressed the Conference. The meeting honoured Mr. T S Sreekumar and Mr. R Surendran Pillai for their valuable contributions to the movement of Govt. employees and workers in the Islands. The Conference also elected new office bearers of the Association for the year 2021-22.
