Port Blair, Oct 29: The Patients of the Hutbay region are suffering heavily due to the non-functioning of the Generator Set and X-Ray machine at PHC Hutbay for nearby past three months.
As per reports, both Generator Set and X-Ray machine have developed technical faults which have not been repaired till date. The generator got damaged nearly three months back but till date, no action has been taken by the Directorate of Health Services to repair the same.
According to the public, even after making repeated complaints authorities concerned have taken no steps yet to repair the Generator and the X-Ray machine of the Hospital.
Talking to Andaman Sheekha Mr. Vasudevan Nair, Ex- Zilla Parishad Member, Zilla Parishad said that few weeks back he met Dr. Omkar Singh, the then Director of Health Service, who assured him that within a week the Generator set will be repaired but as always the promise was not fulfilled.
This shows how serious the Health Department is towards health care system of remote Island.
Mr. Nair claimed that cases of Leptospirosis are increasing in Little Andaman, and doctors and other medical staff are finding it very difficult to manage the situation because of frequent power cuts.
“On Wednesday at around 11:00 AM there was a power cut in the region and by the time the fault was detected, it was noon next day, there were almost 11 hours of power cut. Just imagine how difficult it is for patients and medical staffs of PHC Hutbay”, he alleged.
Recently the Chief Secretary of Andaman and Nicobar islands made few surprise visits, which have installed a sense of confidence among Islanders, now the General Public of Hut Bay are now requesting the Chief Secretary to pay a surprise visit to PHC Hut Bay to see how negligent the DHS is towards the PHC.
Meanwhile, when contacted a senior officer of Health Services told Andaman Sheekha that the Department is aware of the problem and after discussing with top officials soon the problem will be solved.
