Port Blair, Oct 14: Field day on “Seed Production of CIARI Rice Varieties for its upscaling to stakeholders” was organised at Bloomsdale Research Farm, ICAR-CIARI, Chouldarion 13thOctober 2021 for the knowledge and benefit of rice farmers.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Eaknath B. Chakurkar, Director, ICAR-CIARI and the Chief Guest after thoroughly interacting with the farmers and representative from Department of Agriculture on upscaling of the varieties, advocated that preference should be given to HYV of rice varieties with good straw yield so as to meet out fodder requirement of livestock. He also emphasized to do the dissemination of salt tolerant rice varieties for salt affected areas of island.
Dr. P. K. Singh, Principal Scientist and Head (I/c), CIARI emphasised about rice research works carried out at ICAR-CIARI and also highlighted the importance of quality seed & improved varieties. Dr. Y. Ramakrishna, Principal Scientist and Head, KVK South Andaman briefed about management of pest and disease in rice. In the introductory remarks Dr. S. K. Zamir Ahmed, Principal Scientist and In-charge, Social Science Section, ICAR-CIARI welcomed the august gathering and highlighted on the importance of conduct of the Field day on Rice Varieties at Farm level. A total of 30 (19 male and 11 female) farmers got benefited from the programme. The program concluded with the Vote of thanks proposed by Mr. K. Shyam Sunder Rao.
