Port Blair, Oct 10: The District Administration, South Andaman and the Beach Management Committee organised Environment Education Campaign (I#AM#SAVING#MY#BEACH) for continuous awareness and education of people for maintaining pristine character of Radhanagar Beach, Swaraj Dweep and enjoy recreation in harmony with nature under the Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav.
Shri Suneel Anchipaka, Deputy Commissioner, South Andaman graced this occasion as the Chief Guest. The event was attended by tourists, local public and students from Schools of Swarajdweep. As part of the event a Natural Trail with Quiz on Birds, beach under the theme – Awareness on coastal bio-diversity and interdependency was organised at Radhanagar Beach.
The Deputy Commissioner/ Chairman, BMC interacted with the participants and tourists and explained them about the coastal bio-diversity and Blue – Flag Certification of Radhanagar Beach. He expressed his satisfaction while announcing that the Radhanagar Beach has retained “Blue Flag” for the tourist season 2021-2022, for the outstanding performance and maintenance standards in harmony with nature. Blue Flag Certification is one of the World’s most recognised voluntarily eco-labels awarded by Foundation for Environmental Education to beaches, Marinas etc.
He further emphasized on maintaining cleanliness and sought cooperation of general public, hoteliers and tourists for compliance of all the 33 criteria of Blue – Flag Certification.
