Port Blair, Sept 24: A massive protest was organized today by villagers of Teylerabad and Bimblitan at the Garacharma Junction. They blocked the road protesting against pathetic roads of the area.
Villagers alleged the road from from Garacharma Junction to Bimblitan via Teylerabad is in very bad shape since last several years but authorities have turned a blind eye.
The road was constructed about eight years ago and since then the road developed hundreds of potholes due to poor quality of work, villagers alleged.
They alleged that the road condition is so bad that no Autorikshaw driver is willing to take Autorikshaw inside the village for which villagers especially school students and patients are facing a lot of difficulties.
As per details at around 10.30 AM Chief Engineer APWD Mr. Subramani and Executive Engineer Mr. Harikumar along with Assistant Engineer reached the spot and tried to convince the villagers. They reportedly gave a written assurance to the villagers that potholes will be repaired from today and within one month works for new road will start. After the assurances the protest was called off.
The protest was led by Mr. Raj Govind, ex-Zilla Parishad member SAZP and supported by Mr. Ram Das, the
State General Secretary BJP and Mrs. Saraswati Narayan, District President, South Andaman District, BJP and Mr. Rama former PRI Member was also present during the protest.
