Port Blair, Sept 22: Recently a pregnant lady from Rangat area went into labour, while she was being shifted to G B Pant Hospital from Rangat CHC.
According to hospital sources, while the Ambulance was crossing pathetic road stretch of Baratang the lady went into labour and when the vehicle was crossing the ATR stretch between the Middle Strait and Jirkatang the pain became unbearable for the mother.
Considering the critical condition the police guard, who was on duty with the ambulance intimated the incharge of Jarawa Protection Post Jirkatang about the pregnant lady.
As soon as the incharge of JPP Jirkatang got this message, he took one of the lady staff of the JPP and one ANM from nearby sub center and rushed to the spot, where the Ambulance was parked, nearly 15 KM inside the Jarawa Reserve area of ATR.
As soon as, one lady police staff and one ANM arrived at the spot, the well experienced staff nurse present with the pregnant lady took the call and performed the delivery inside the ambulance.
Finally the Staff Nurse, the ANM and the lady police constable were able to complete the delivery safely and the woman gave birth to a girl child.
Later after some rest, the new born baby and her mother was taken to the Ferrargunj PHC for further medical care. From Ferrargunj PHC the doctors after check-up referred both mother and new born baby to G B Pant Hospital.
This incident which took place on 11 September 2021 inside Jarawa Tribal Reserve area of ATR, far away from media glare, shows that how dedicatedly some Cops and Health workers are performing their duties. This is the reason why even after getting the report late,Andaman Sheekha daily decided to carry the story.
The In-charge of JPP Jirkatang exhibited tremendous sense of duty and presence of mind by arranging a lady constable and ANM during the time of crisis and reaching to the spot in no time. The Staff Nurse, who was travelling with the pregnant lady and the ANM and lady police staff also showed exemplary commitment towards duties, which must be acknowledged and all these staffs must be honored.
