Port Blair, Sept 17: The Botanical Survey of India, Andaman & Nicobar Regional Centre, Port Blair, virtually celebrated World Ozone Day on 16th September, 2021. The theme of the day was “Ozone for life: 36 years of Ozone layer protection”.
The function was inaugurated by Dr. Lal Ji Singh, Joint Director & Head. On his presidential address he emphasized on significance of Ozone Layer in terms of survival of the life and climate change. He also briefed about how to reduce depletion of Ozone layer and role of plants in protection of the Ozone layer and in the ecological balance to survival and existence of biodiversity on the Earth. He also stated that plants are one of the most significant biological factors able to reduce depletion of the Ozone layer and Global Warming.
On this occasion, a drawing competition for school students was virtually organized. More than 255 students from various schools of Port Blair virtually participated in the drawing competition. The students were asked to send the image of their drawing through WhatsApp. A total of 255 nos. of drawing was received through WhatsApp. The drawing competition was conducted in five categories: Junior: Category I (Class 1-2), Category II (Class 3-4); Senior: Category I (Class 5-7), Category II (Class 8 – 10) and Category III (Class 11-12). Four best drawing was selected in each category (first, second, third and consolation). Dr. Chandan Singh Purohit, Scientist C, gave vote of thanks.
