To bring nutrition to the centre-stage of the National Development Agenda, Government of India launched Prime Minister’s Overarching Scheme for Holistic Nourishment (POSHAN Abhiyaan) in March, 2018. It assures to reduce stunting, under-nutrition, low-birth weight and anaemia. POSHAN Abhiyaan on one hand seeks to synergize efforts of key stakeholders by leveraging technology to achieve the desired goals and on the other intends to convert nutrition awareness into a Jan Andolan.
To ensure community mobilization, bolster people’s participation and to maintain the momentum of Jan Andolan, the 4th Rashtriya POSHAN Maah is being observed in these Islands along with rest of the country during the month of September, 2021 for spreading the message ‘Har Ghar Poshan Tyohar’.
The Department of Social Welfare is organizing various programmes like TV and Radio Talk shows, Promotion of Nutri Garden, Yoga, Anaemia prevention , Deworming, Diet Diversity , awareness campaign on health and nutrition, drive for identification of Severe Acute Malnourished (SAM) children, special registration drive on Pradhan Mantri Matru Vandana Yojana etc. in association with other departments of UT administration for achieving the goal of POSHAN Abhiyaan in making the citizens malnutrition free.
I appeal to the islanders to spread awareness on nutrition and to inculcate the habit of healthy, nutritious, low cost and locally available diet and to extend their action support to the holistic nutrition campaign undertaken by different departments and civil society organizations.
