Port Blair, Aug 16: On 15 Aug 21 the nation celebrated its 75th Independence Day. A series of activities marked the momentous occasion. The festivities began with ships dressing overall and looking festive.
This was followed by NetajiSubhash Chandra Bose Dweep Coastal Battery firing 21 Gun salutes at the stroke of noon on 15 Aug 21. To commemorate the occasion befittingly, four ships of the Andaman and Nicobar Command, in close coordination with two ships of Directorate of Shipping Services (DSS) were positioned off south point for illumination, presenting a relentless backdrop to the solemn ceremonies.
At sunset on 15 Aug 21, the ship’s silhouettes were shimmeringly illuminated in glory of the 75th of our Independence, attracting huge crowds towards Marine Drive and Marina Park, filling the onlookers with patriotic fervour. Indian Naval Ships Chetlatand Cheriyam, Coast Guard Ships Rajtarang and Arun Asif Ali and DSS ships MV North Passage and MV Wandoor formed the group of ships undertaking illumination.
Earlier in the day a ceremonial guard was presented in attendance of the Swarnim Vijay Varsh Flame. The Flame was thereafter embarked onboard Naval Ships and has departed on her journey to the Southern Group of Island. The flame will be routed through Car Nicobar, Kamorta and Campbell Bay before returning to Port Blair on 26 Aug 21.
