
Port Blair, July 25: On 24/07/2021, the report of damage of road by sinking at Delanipur was reported and the A&N Police diverted the traffic to avoid any untoward incident. Immediate after reporting of the incidence The Superintending Engineer Mr. H. M. Lingaraju along with other Engineers inspected the site immediately after reporting of the incident and taken immediate measure to restore the road.
The big chunk of road sunk by creating a big hole of more than 3 mtr. The road was constructed more than 50 years back and recently overlaid as part of improvement. Further direction was also issued to check the reason of the sinking.
After inspection it was observed that the sink was due to seepage of water from the adjoining drain. Immediately mobilisation of men machinery and material was done and the sunken portion was restored by night and opened for light traffic. Today further action was taken to restore the road with metalling to normalise for all type of traffic.
The road was opened for all type of traffic by afternoon. The bituminious work will be done after the weather condition improves to carry out the work. Action is also initiated to plug the seepage . The immediate action of the department avoided any major traffic disruption in the area, a press release from APWD informed.
