Port Blair, July 23: In yet another case of alleged negligence causing death of patient in G B Pant Hospital, a 15 year old boy, Master A. Nikhil died on 28.06.2021. An emotional social media message written by his elder brother Ashwin, is now being shared widely in all platforms of social media by public and everyone is now demanding an investigation in this matter and stringent action against those who are responsible for the death of Master Nikhil.
As per details Mr. Anil Kumar, the father of Late Nikhil wrote a letter to the Lt. Governor of Andaman and Nicobar Islands on 12.07.2021 and demanded proper enquiry into this matter and suitable action against two doctors of G B Pant Hospital.
“Due to the negligence and carelessness of Dr. Priya and Dr. Gurumani, HOD(ENT), I lost my 15 yrs old son Late A. Nikhil on 28.06.21 at 6:45 pm,” Mr. Anil mentioned in his letter addressed to the Lt. Governor.
Andaman Sheekha tried to contact the Director of Health Services Dr. Omkar Singh but he made Andaman Sheekha Daily reporter to wait for two days for a comment in this case and later refused to even meet, which shows how serious the DHS is towards the welfare of public and how much he feels answerable to public.
When Andaman Sheekha Daily met the Director of ANIIMS, Dr. A K Mondal in this regard for a comment he said that after 6 to 7 days of the death of the child, ANIIMS had a meeting with Dr. Saha, the Medical Superintendent for a death audit meeting to find out whether it was failure of Antibiotics or other problems. “We are checking whether there was any element of negligence and further investigations are on,” Dr. Mandal said.
While people of Andaman and Nicobar Islands are deeply upset with such media reports of alleged negligence of Doctors, it must be noted that till now not even in a single cases of medical negligence any major and visible action was ever taken on any Doctors in Andaman. At least, no such cases are in public domain of Andaman and Nicobar islands.
However, hopes are high that atleast in this case the Chief Secretary of Andaman and Nicobar Islands will order a judicial inquiry. Master A Nikhil, a brilliant student of Class X, is gone but atleast grieving parents and other anguished family members of the child deserve justice.
