
Port Blair, July 23: The Port Blair Municipal Council in coordination with Ministry of Housing & Urban Affairs &National Safai Karamcharis Finance & Development Corporation (NSKFDC) & Nationalized partner bank i.e., Canara Bank has conducted Swachhata Udhayami Loan Mela in the month of January 2021. Through loan mela it is objective is to providing required equipment towards sanitation & solid waste management to the registered Self Help Group (SHG) of PBMC under DAY-NULM& informal individuals working for sanitation & waste management.
In this connection, a loan disbursement program was organized on dated 23.07.2021& out of 05 applications, 03 beneficiaries benefitted under Revised Self Employment Scheme for Rehabilitation Of Manual Scavengers (SRMS)of NSKFDC, a sum of total loan amount Rs. 23,41,730.00 through Canara Bank including a capital subsidy of Rs. 9,60,432.00, were disbursed directly to the vehicles/ machinery suppliers for procurement of vehicles/ machinery in regard to concerned SHG member to cater their demands.
It was also ascertained by PBMC, that by adopting these machineries, the Self Help Group will enhance their work in sanitation & solid waste management works &helps to generate more livelihoods and shall also be able to pay the loan with interest @ 6%per annum, which is admissible for a repayment of loan period of 07-10years.
PBMC is also targeted to prolong the solid waste management activity with the help of Self Help group on a self-sustainable model by engaging them, which will not only saves the financial burden on PBMC, but will also generate livelihood in a form of Self Help Group in near future.
