Port Blair, July 16: Dozens of residents of Car Nicobar Islands, mostly from Perka village today gathered infront of DC Office of Car Nicobar with placards, demanding ships from Port Blair.
As there is no ship between Car Nicobar and Port Blair since last nearly three months lots of Car Nicobar residents are said to be stranded at Port Blair. The Nicobari Tribal people who gathered outside DC Office demanded immediate sailing of ship so that those people can reach Car Nicobar safely.
According to sources not only Nicobari Tribal people but also many non-tribal people are also waiting for a ship for Car Nicobar since last three months.
Worth mentioning here that many vacations staffs of Education Department could not reach Port Blair during summer vacation due to various reasons and also there are people, who completed their tenure at Car Nicobar, and are unable to reach Port Blair.
When contacted the Assistant Commissioner of Car Nicobar Mr. Aditya Jha today said that the villagers came infront of DC Office to enquire about ship sailing. Claiming that it was not a protest, he said that the residents were only enquiring about ship schedule.
“They have been informed that a ship has already been scheduled for Car Nicobar next week, tentatively. They left this place satisfied. We will come to know about the exact date of sailing of ship next week,” the Assistant Commissioner said.
