Port Blair, July 05: While Andaman and Nicobar Islands still require 3,00,000 vaccine doses to complete the vaccination process in the UT, as per highly placed sources at present release order for only 1570 vaccine doses have been prepared for Andaman and Nicobar Islands for 18+ age group of people, in coming days. However, it is learnt that 20,000 doses have been already sanctioned for Andaman but these Islands are not given due priority by the vaccine company.
At present Andaman and Nicobar Islands have nearly 30,000 other vaccine doses for second dose for 45+ age group of people.
Sources said that the Chief Secretary and other senior officers are continuously taking up the issue but the delivery of vaccines for Andaman is very slow.
At this crucial time where Andaman is facing shortage of vaccines, all political leaders of these Islands must now show their political power and take up the issue with PM and concerned Ministers to get more and more vaccines issues for Andaman and Nicobar Islands.
The Health Department has ability to complete vaccination of all Islanders within one month if sufficient number of vaccines are provided to Andaman but sadly this is not happening at present.
Hope all political leaders will take up this matter in the highest level and get all Islanders vaccinated before the expected third wave of COVID-19.
