Port Blair, Oct 29: The Andaman & Nicobar State Cooperative Union opened yet another Training Centre for Tailoring and Fashion Designing at Panchayat Hall, Brichgunj, South Andaman on Monday, the 29U October 2012 at 1000 Hrs. which was formally inaugurated by Mr. Anand Prakash, Chief Secretary, Andaman & Nicobar Administration, Port Blair as the Chief Guest of the function organised for this purpose.
Welcoming the gathering, Mr. Kuldeep Rai Sharma, Chairman, A&N State Cooperative Union informed that the Union is committed to improve the socio-economic condition of rural people of this archipelago, particularly the women folk, for making them self-reliant and self-sufficient, by opening such Training Centres in all remote areas. Through such Training Centres, he added, the rural unemployed women would be able to find some income sources by making them trained; and at the same time, unemployment problems of some local youths would be solved. Mr. Rai Sharma also emphasized on formation of more and more Self Help Groups as cooperative societies, particularly in rural areas of the A&N Islands.
While speaking as the Chief Guest on the occasion, Mr. Anand Prakash, Chief Secretary, A&N Administration appreciated the efforts made by the A&N State Cooperative Union for opening the Tailoring Centre and opined that the Training Centre should run with similar enthusiasm. He further said that not only the Training Centres for Tailoring and Fashion Designing, the Union should explore to open Training Centres for some other trades, too.
Mr. Jagjeevan Lall, a Social Activist of Brichgunj village elaborated the problems and difficulties faced by the villagers of Brichgunj and adjacent areas; and drew the kind attention of the Chief Secretary to find some solutions to the problems he enumerated.
The function came to the end with the vote of thanks proposed by Mr. C. Manaf, Pradhan, Brichgunj Gram Panchayat.
