Port Blair, May 28: Residents of Baratang area are witnessing indiscriminate power cuts since last five days meanwhile FPS Shops are unable to supply ration items due to zero internet network and power cuts.
As per source the remote Islanders suffering due to such unjustified power cut, in morning hour, since last 5 days. Residents of Baratang complain that every morning there is a power cut for 6 to 8 hours due to which the FPS shops are also unable to supply Ration items to villagers because the Ration Supply Card machines are connected online and the internet is not working and due to power failure.
Due to COVID-19 restriction in Middle Andaman, the shops opening timing is 6 am to 10 am and mostly at this time there is no electric power supply in Baratang region. Public are daily coming from far pockets of Baratang Island to collect ration items form the past 4-5 days but due to electric power failure they are mostly going back empty handed.
When Andaman Sheekha contacted a senior officer of Electricity Department, he said that due to technical glitches in electrical equipments in Baratang, the department could not provide proper electricity since past three four days.
“But now we have brought a transformer from Rangat to provide electricity in Baratang area, and the supply is on. So from today the villagers will not face power cut problem” he said, on the condition of anonymity.
