Port Blair, May 12: Six residents of Rajiv Nagar, Great Nicobar have complained against illegally removing their houses by a mob, without the knowledge of the revenue authorities and District Administration. They alleged that during the time of pandemic such act is open violation of COVID-19 protocols.
In a letter addressed to the Sub- Divisional Magistrate, Campbell Bay and the Station House Officer, PS Campbell Bay these residents namely Mr. Abdul Malik, Mr. Anil Kujur, Mr. Pintu Singh, Mr. Bikash Debnath, Mr. Swapan Mondal and Mr. Saddam pointed out that they had constructed makeshift houses in the said land and were residing in the said house along with their family members as there are many encroachment in the said area.
They pointed out that on 11.05.2021 about 7.00 PM a meeting was conducted by some local political leaders near Anganwadi (1 KM) Rajiv Nagar-1. They further added that during the meeting the workers of a particular political party, had raised questions on encroachment of government revenue land and took a firm decision for evacuating/removing them from the said encroached land for the reason best known to them.
The complainants further mentioned that today at about 1400 hours the above mentioned party workers from a particular political party demolished their houses.
They alleged that some important documents and gold ornaments which were kept inside those houses are now missing.
“During the COVID Pandemic how, a meeting that too during the lock down period could have been conducted and without following the COVID Protocol,” the complainants complained.
This incident , which is now being investigated by police, has shown that how some people are still involving in politics during the time of pandemic and opening violating COVID-19 protocols, using name of political parties.
When Andaman Sheekha Daily contacted the BDO of Great Nicobar, who is also the Assistant Commissioner of the region, to know about the ground realities, she said that the local authorities didn’t pass any direction or order to any concern political party or anyone for the said eviction from houses. “By tomorrow a revenue team will be sent to the spot to conduct an Inquiry” she added.
