Port Blair, May 11: The Andaman and Nicobar Islands today received second batch of consignment of 56 Oxygen concentrators and yesterday this UT had received 44 Oxygen concentrators, taking the total number of OC to 100.
Addressing a press conference today at the conference hall of IP&T, the Secretary, of Information, Publicity and Tourism, Mr. Sunil Kumar Singh today said that the Administration is preparing for any worse situation than what we have today.
“We are planning to purchase some more oxygen concentrators and ventilators also,” the Secretary added.
Talking about the COVID-19 situation in the Islands, the Secretary informed that 03 flights with 86 passengers arrived today at Port Blair Airport and during the Rapid Antigen Test (RAT) conducted on these passengers, none of them was found Covid-19 positive. He further said that 71 ATR commuters for N&M Andaman were also tested at Ferrargunj, out of which 07 were found COVID-19 positive.
About vaccination drive, the Secretary informed that today altogether 338 eligible beneficiaries got vaccinated by 4:00 PM. The vaccination for second dose is also going on for eligible beneficiaries of 45 above age group. However the vaccine for age group 18-44 will start once the doses of vaccine is received from Serum institute of India, he added.
“Some of the problems, which people are facing about stranded passengers, standard either in some of the Islands or in Port Blair itself, for them, I would like to mentioned that we have created a “Rescue Cell”. This was created for this purpose only,” Mr. Singh added.
Regarding RTPCR test for person going to mainland, the Secretary said that they doesn’t require any RTPCR test report for Chennai, but for Kolkata if somebody is going in emergency for medical treatment can contact to Rescue Cell or Deputy Commissioner’s office. “They will sort it out in case to case basis,” he added.
Later the Deputy Director GB Pant Hospital, Mr. Amitabha De said that at present total 35 patients are admitted in Covid Care Centers, in which 02 were newly admitted whereas 08 patients got discharged after recovery.
