Port Blair, May 10: Mr. Sunil Kumar Singh, the Secretary of Information, Publicity & Tourism today said that A & N Islands have received first batch of consignment of 44 oxygen concentrators and 102 accessories from Switzerland and Administration is expecting to receive second batch by tomorrow.
Addressing a Media briefing at the conference hall of IP&T, Mr. Singh added that 05 flights with 216 passengers arrived today at Port Blair Airport and during the Rapid Antigen Test (RAT) conducted on these passengers, 02 found Covid positive. He said 115 people bound for N&M Andaman were also tested at Ferrargunj out of which 05 were found COVID-19 positive.
About vaccination drive, the Secretary informed that today altogether 423 eligible beneficiaries got vaccinated by 4:00 PM. The vaccination for second dose is also going on for eligible beneficiaries of 45 above age group. “18+ vaccines we have not received yet. We don’t know when we will receive it. Once we get it, it will be informed,” he added.
“Few things which came to notice of department as well as administration are that some of the people are not coming forward and getting tested even though are having symptoms of COVID-19, and they are reporting at very last stage, because of which treatment becomes difficult,” the Secretary pointed out.
He urged media persons to spread awareness among Islanders to report cases to Health Department as sitting in home will not solve the problem, rather it will complicate the problems.
“However the reports which I have received from health department are very alarming. The number of cases is showing upward trend, however we are keeping a watch on it and we will take a decisions on how to contain it, depending the cases in future on how to contain the spread of COVID-19”, he added.
Later the Deputy Director GB Pant Hospital, Shri Amitabha De said that as on today total 72 patients are admitted in which 43 patients are on oxygen support and 02 patients are on ventilators, whereas today newly admitted cases is 03 whereas 07 patients got discharged at G B Pant Hospital.
He further stated that in Covid Care Centers, altogether 39 asymptomatic COVID patients are admitted as on 09 May and today newly admitted cases is 04 whereas 16 patients got discharged.
