Port Blair, May 06: Mr. Vishal Jolly, Core-Committee Member & Former State President, BJP-A & N Islands Member, Home Ministry Advisory Committee in a letter to the Chief Secretary has requested to allow willing teachers posted in Nicobar District to avail summer vacation.
In his letter he said that government officials posted in far flung areas especially Nicobar District including Campbell Bay face lot of difficulties due to problematic shipping services.
Consequently employees posted in such far flung islands are often left with no option but spend long duration in far flung remote islands away from their family residing elsewhere for obvious reasons.
Now that summer vacation has been declared, those in the teaching profession intend to avail summer vacation and visit their family in the mainland/other island.
However vide Order No 38 dated 30th April 2021 all teachers in Nicobar district including Campbell Bay have been directed to report to AC/SDMs office thus depriving them from availing summer vacation 2021. It is pertinent to mention that many teachers posted in Nicobar district could not avail summer vacation during 2020 also because of COVID duty.
It is also pertinent to mention that sufficient number of non-vacation government staff members of other departments are already available in the district whose services could be utilized as and when need arise.
“Teachers are often denied leave during large part of the year due to teaching responsibilities thus vacation is the only time, they get to visit their hometown/families residing elsewhere in other islands. In view of the above, it is requested that those who wish to avail summer vacation during the current year may kindly be allowed to avail the vacation and such teachers may kindly be permitted to leave the headquarters. As far as COVID related duties are concerned, those who do not intend to avail vacation, their services could be utilized. This way, those willing to avail vacation will not be deprived of the summer vacation, at the same time, important government work also will not be hampered,” Mr. Jolly added.
