
Port Blair, May 04: The Director, ANIIMS, Dr. AK Mandal, informed that availability of oxygen is monitored in 3 to 4 levels.
Addressing a press conference today at IP&T conference hall, he said, at present oxygen cylinders are available in huge quantity and two Pvt. Gas filling agencies are also having good quantity of oxygen to refill the empty cylinders. A contingency plan has also been devised wherein a ship has been kept standby to bring full load of oxygen cylinders in emergency situation.
Apart from this, the Administration has also planned for oxygen generator and another Oxygen Concentrator, the Director ANIIMS said adding that we are having enough number of oxygen concentrator. Oxygen concentrators are devices that help concentrate oxygen from the ambient air by removing nitrogen and delivering pure oxygen to individuals.
Apart from G.B Pant Hospital, good quantity of Oxygen Concentrators has also been made available to other two districts too to maintain the oxygen requirement, he said. The Director further disclosed that the Administration has planned huge quantity of Oxygen Generator Plant. Apart from the G. B Pant Hospital, Oxygen Generator Plant will be established in North & Middle Andaman District as well as Nicobar District, he said adding that these plants will generate huge capacity of oxygen.
The Secretary, IP&T, Mr. Sunil Kumar Singh, who chaired the Press Conference once again urged the people to follow all COVID appropriate behavior and help Administration in its fight against corona virus. The Secretary informed that 5 flights with 189 passengers arrived today and during the Rapid Antigen Test (RAT) conducted on these passengers, 2 were found positive. About vaccination drive 45+, the Secretary informed that it is continuing and requested the eligible persons to come forward and get vaccinated at the earliest and help the Administration to restrict the spread of corona virus. He further said as soon as the vaccine is received from Serum Institute of India, the vaccination drive for 18 + will begin in Isles.
The Deputy Director, G.B. Pant Hospital, Mr. Amitabha De said the number of corona positive patients in the G. B Pant Hospital is 70, of which 57 are on Oxygen support and no patient is on ventilator. He further disclosed that altogether, 3 patients were admitted today at COVID Care Centres. Further, 15 patients were discharged and at present 113 patients are still in COVID Care Centres in South Andaman District, the Deputy Director added.
