Port Blair, May 03: In view of sudden surge in the COVID-19 positive cases in South Andaman District and to contain the further spread of the virus the Andaman and Nicobar Administration has decided to suspend the passenger helicopter service in the inter-island sector from 04 May 2021 and until further orders.
“However, the helicopter service shall be deployed for emergency medical evacuation and other emergency purposes only on the specific request of the concerned Deputy Commissioner,” an official order issued in this regard by Commissioner-cum- Secretary of Civil Aviation in Andaman, Dr. V Candavelou said here today.
Meanwhile, ferry services to remote Islands have already been restricted by the local Administration to stop spread of COVID-19 virus in other Islands and the convoys of Andaman Trunk Road for North and Middle Andaman have also been suspended.
