Port Blair, Apr 30: The Secretary IP&T, Mr. S K Singh today said that there is a spike in COVID-19 cases in South Andaman region today.
He said that today vehicles in two convoys were sent to North and Middle Andaman in which altogether 476 passengers were tested, out of which 30 passengers were tested COVID-19 positive. “This is a matter of serious concern,” said the Secretary IP&T.
Addressing a press conference today at IP&T Conference Hall, Mr. S K Singh added that today altogether 07 flights landed at Port Blair airport in which 575 passengers arrived and among these, 10 passengers were tested COVID-19 positive at Port Blair, he added.
“This means that we have to work more effectively, people have to become more responsible and should strictly follow all the guidelines issued by the government. Earlier we heard that there were huge crowds at religious places now the administration has closed all the religious places in these Islands, so far as you can see slowly we are heading towards closure of all the public places. We are now bound to take these major steps in these islands as we have no other way to overcome the situation,” Mr. S K Singh said in the press conference.
Mr. S K Singh pointed out that mostly citizens are responsible and some of them are strictly following all the COVID protocols but some irresponsible people who have no seriousness for COVID-19 are violating the protocols, because of this, the situation can become even worse.
He mentioned that at present we have all the sufficient resources like oxygen cylinders, vaccines, beds etc. in Port Blair city, and we are trying the same in Nicobar District and North and Middle Andaman District but these places have some restrictions so every person visiting these places have to undergo RTPCR test.
Mr. Singh said that as far as vaccination drive is concerned for the age group of 18 years to 44 years they have to wait till we get the delivery of vaccination as soon as we receive those, we will launch that and invite the beneficiaries to get vaccinated.
“Tomorrow there is no need to go to any vaccination center. The vaccination drive for all the beneficiaries of age group above 45 and above will continue for second dose,” he added.
The Secretary said that today altogether 453 citizens have been vaccinated.
Later talking to the media, Dr. Amitabh De, suggested a few steps that should be followed on a daily basis to boost your immunity as well as suggested some techniques to increase oxygen level in a human body.
