Port Blair, Oct 25: Mr Kuldeep Rai Sharma, President, PCC has requested the Lt Governor, Andaman & Nicobar Islands to consider reducing the boat fare of speed boats from Rs. 150/- to Rs. 30/- sailing in between Port Blair and Havelock.
In a letter addressed to the Lt Governor, Mr Sharma stated that the speed boats MV Bambooka and MV North Passage sailing for Havelock from Port Blair and vice versa, charges Rs. 150/- per head per trip from the local inhabitants and charges Rs. 250/- per trip per head from tourists. For journey between Port Blair to Havelock these boats take 2 hours only. But when these boats undertakes the six hours journey from Port Blair to Hutbay and vice versa, local inhabitants have to pay only Rs. 30/- per head and per trip.
“The farmers traveling between Port Blair – Havelock- Port Blair feel this high charges tickets as very painful and unaffordable,” Mr Sharma added.
Further Mr Sharma also stated that boat charges being charged from the tourists for their trips to Port Blair-Havelock-Port Blair may remain unchanged.
