Port Blair, Apr 07: Andaman Sheekha Daily on several occasions in the recent past had raised the issue of the pathetic condition of Andaman Trunk Road inside Jarawa Tribal Reserve, between Middle Strait and Jirkatang.
Now replying to a query on Twitter, NHIDCL informed Andaman Sheekha that the maintenance work has now finally begun.
“Work on maintenance of Jarwa Reserve started on Tuesday 06 April, 2021. Will be Completed in 10 days,” the Twitter message of NHIDCL RO- Port Blair said here today.
When contacted a senior official of NHIDCL told Andaman Sheekha that the work might take even two weeks as permission is given to workers inside Jarawa Tribal Reserve for a very limited time, which is 8.00 AM to 2.00 PM.
He said that instead of filling potholes this time complete road will be overlaid over the first layer which was paved few years back.
Of-late there have been many complaints from ATR commuters that the condition of the stretch of Andaman Trunk Road, between Jirkatang and Middle Strait is pathetic. The public had pointed out that the said road stretch has developed hundreds of potholes in the last 2 years and no repair works have been carried out by NHIDCL contractor yet.
