Port Blair, Apr 05: A dharna was organized by Congress workers of Kadamtala area at Uttara Bazaar this morning at around 10:00 AM. Nearly 70 congress workers and villagers were present in the dharna to press their demands.
The demands were immediate starting of water sprinkling on ATR to deal with dust pollution between Uttara Jetty to Kadamtala 3 no. Camp; Starting of boat service between Uttara jetty and Swaraj & Shaheed Dweep via Long Island; Starting of solar power plant to be installed near Broom Valley area and immediate issuance of license for mini petrol pump at Kadamtala.
It is learnt that at around 11:00 AM, Tehsilder Rangat with officials of NHIDCL, AE Electricity reached the spot and NHIDCL officials assured that from now twice a day water will be sprinkled on road stretch from Uttara jetty to Kadamtala 3 no. Camp.
AE Kadamtala Electricity Department assured that solar power plant project is under progress as the proposal of allotment of land is already submitted to higher officials of Electricity Department.
Tehsilder reportedly informed public that the petrol diesel outlet will start from tomorrow or day after tomorrow and about boat service for Shaheed Dweep and Swaraj Dweep via Long Island, the Teshilder informed that already message has been sent to DSS and further asked public to summit demand letters. It is learnt that the dharna was called off at around 11.00 AM.
