Port Blair, Mar 25: Mr. G Sanju Kumar, Secretary of Baratang Fiber Boat Owners Associations, Baratang Islands, North and Middle Andaman has demanded resuming of convoys for tourists, visiting Baratang Island.
In a letter addressed to the Chief Secretary A & N Administration, Mr. G Sanju Kumar wrote that on the basis of SOP issued by Administration for re-opening of tourism activities at North and Middle Andaman, the fiber boat operators have invested huge amount of money for making fiber tourist boats fit to ply and they have got the boats registered as per Andaman IV rule under the respective registering authority of North and Middle Andaman.
Mr. G Sanju Kumar pointed out that they are sitting idle since 1 year without any earnings and now when this is the time to earn and there is little hope of recovering few losses, they are unable to do the same because of unsuitable convoy timings for tourist at Middle Strait and Jirkatang.
He added that the boat operators have written about this issue many times but they have not got any positive response till date.
Mr. G Sanju Kumar threatened to sit on hunger strike if necessary steps are not taken in this regard.
