
Port Blair, Feb 14: Mr. Ajoy Bairagi, State President, Bharatiya Janata Party, Andaman and Nicobar Islands along with Mr. Vishal Jolly, Former State President, Bharatiya Janata Party, Andaman and Nicobar Islands, Mr. Sanjay Kumar Singh, State Vice President, Bharatiya Janata Party, Andaman and Nicobar Islands and Mr. N. K Udhaya Kumar, State President, Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha, Andaman and Nicobar Islands under the leadership of Mr. Y Satya Kumar, National Secretary, Bharatiya Janata Party and Prabhari, Bharatiya Janata Party, Andaman and Nicobar Islands met Mr. Giriraj Singh, the Union Minister of Fisheries, Animal Husbandry and Dairying, Govt. of India at New Delhi.
The State delegation of Bharatiya Janata Party, Andaman and Nicobar Islands met the Minister and explained to him the various problems being faced by the fishermen of Andaman and Nicobar Islands. Some of the problems and demands raised by the State delegation of Bharatiya Janta Party before the Minister are (1) Construction of RCC Bore Pile Jetty (Fishing Harbour), Wave Breaker and Net Mending Shed at Old Sulanga Jetty at Backside of Marine Dockyard. (2) Permitting Fishermen to take shortcut route from Baratang Creek to Middle and North Andaman. (3) Sanction of Working Capital Loan cum Subsidy from RCS Department towards Cooperative Societies. (4) Inclusion of Names of Poor Fishermen in the OBC Category. (5) Inclusion of names of poor fishermen in the BPL List. (6) Increasing the amount of Rs. 2 Lakhs to Rs. 5 Lakhs for the bonafide fishermen who accidentally lost their life in the sea during fishing under the group accidental scheme of the Administration. (7) Increasing the amount from Rs. 1 Lakh to Rs. 12 Lakhs for the fishermen who lost the fishing boats and gears in the sea during fishing under the natural calamity accidental scheme. (8) Introduction of 50% subsidy for the purchase of Deepfreezers and Insulated Ice Box. (9) Introduction of Scheme for Providing Relief during Monsoon season for three months from June to August. (10) Providing Residential houses to the poor fishermen families on grant manner under the Prime Minister Aawas Yojna. (11) Inclusion of Fishermen of the Islands in the Ayushman Bharat Scheme of Govt. of India for free Medical Treatment.
The State delegation of Bharatiya Janata Party also submitted the demands and problems of the fishermen to the Minister in writing.
A fruitful discussion was held between the Minister and the visiting delegation of Bharatiya Janata Party. The Minister assured all possible assistance to the fishermen of Andaman and Nicobar Islands.
