Port Blair, Jan 31: The Inaugural Ceremony for National Immunization Day for Polio was organized at Health and Wellness Center, Shadipur, Port Blair on 31st January 2021 by Administrating First Drop of Oral Polio Vaccine by Dr V. Candavelou IAS, Commissioner Cum Secretary (Health), A &N Admin. The program was attended by Shri R.N Sharma, IAS Secretary (Health)/Mission Director (UTHM), Dr Omkar Singh, Director of Health Services, Dr Munni Singhania, DD(Medical), Dr M Lall , MoI/c HWC Shadipur and Dr Avijit Roy State Immunization Officer along with other officials of DHS. Dr V Candavelou in his inaugural address appealed the general Public to participate in the campaign and get their children to nearest Polio Booth for Polio drops. He also congratulated the medical team for their effort to conduct the Campaigns across this island.
With the first drop at Polio Administered at the venue the entire islands followed the vaccination Campaign
Along with this the entire UT of A&N Islands has started the three days’ activities for Polio vaccination 2020 in 559 booths and about 26000 children will be administered the Oral Polio Vaccine. The first day will be booth activities followed by the House to House visit by the Health Workers and volunteers for find out the left out children.
