Port Blair, Oct 15: The Congress unit of Andaman and Nicobar Islands has urged the Defence Minister of India to provide special quota for Island youths in all the vacancies of Defence forces.
Mr. Kuldeep Rai Sharma, President, Andaman and Nicobar Territorial Congress Committee (ANTCC) along with other senior congress leaders today called on the Defence Minister Mr. AK Anthony, who arrived at Port Blair on 15th October, 2012.
During the meeting, Mr. Sharma has apprised the Defence Minister of the acute unemployment problems of these Islands and requested to consider creation of special quota for the youths of the Islands in the vacancies of Defence forces.
“Though youngsters of A & N Islands are very energetic, polite, well disciplined and having the inspiration to serve the country but due to non availability of proper guidance they are unable to compete with their counterparts at mainland and in case some special quota is given to them, these aspirants may get suitable jobs in Defence forces,” Sharma said in a press release today.
Further to it, he has also advocated for opening of a Sainik School at Campbell Bay so that the tribal and others may get good opportunity for educating them to be prepared for Defence services and for other jobs also.
“Opening of this school will certainly boost the morale of the inhabitants who are staying at a cut off area from Port Blair,” Mr. Sharma added.
The Defence Minister gave a patience hearing and assured to look into the matter in positive way.
