Port Blair, Jan 05: Strict precautions taken by Andaman and Nicobar Administration, in the wake of new strain COVID-19 virus, seems to be yielding good results, as only four new cases of COVID-19 has been detected in Andaman in first five days of 2021.
On 4th January no case of COVID-19 was reported in Andaman while other four days only one case was detected per day on 1, 2, 3 and 5 January 2021.
Also since 22 December no new cases of death due to COVID-19 has been reported from Andaman and at present the total number deaths due to COVID-19 in Andaman stands at 62, in official records.
“Today we have got only one new COVID-19 patient and yesterday no such case was detected,” confirmed sources in Health Department.
Considering the transmission rate of new strain of COVID-19 virus, which is causing an havoc in UK at present, it is too early to celebrate in Andaman but still, till now the Andaman and Nicobar Administration, especially the COVID-19 warriors have done a great job.
Taking advance precaution against from the new variant of COVID – 19, Andaman and Nicobar Administration had made it mandatory for all incoming passengers arriving at Veer Savarkar International Airport of Port Blair to mandatorily carry RT – PCR negative test report issued from a ICMR recognized lab, from 26th December, 2020 onwards.
As per the new guideline the RT – PCR test should have been taken by every incoming passenger within 48 hours prior to commencement of journey.
Although this new direction is causing some inconvenience to incoming passengers but this is yielding positive results as of now.
Till 4th January 2021 evening, altogether 4947 people have been tested COVID-19 positive in Andaman and Nicobar Islands, out of which 4837 have recovered. At present there are 48 active cases of COVID-19 in Andamans.
Andaman and Nicobar Islands are also maintaining very high rate of Test, which is 459300 tests per million.
Meanwhile, Islanders are demanding continuously to open some helpdesk for incoming passengers at Chennai, Vizag, Kolkata and New Delhi so that incoming passengers don’t have to run from pillar to post for the RTPCR test and the negative result.
