Port Blair, Oct 11: The Andaman Chamber of Commerce & Industry has announced the 2nd edition of the Andaman Marathon to be held on 18th of November 2012. The event will be known as “Amway Andaman Marathon-2012” as Amway India Ltd is the title sponsor.
In a press conference held at TSG emerald view at 4pm, Mr G Bhasar, President of ACCI said that looking at the success of the 1st edition of the Andaman Marathon held last year, ACCI is planning to continue the Marathon year after year.
Further Mr Mohammed Jadwet, Chairman said that this year the event is to be held on a larger scale with two categories i.e. 10km and Half Marathon, the route will transverse through the city of Port Blair.
“This year the prize money is five times higher comparing to the last year, the 1st prize for half marathon will be Rs/- 1,00,000, 2nd prize Rs/-50,000 and the 3rd prize for half marathon will be Rs/- 30,000 for both men and women. And the 1st prize for 10 km marathon will be Rs/- 40000, 2nd prize Rs/-20000 and the 3rd prize for 10km marathon will be Rs/- 15000 for both men and women,” Mr Jadwet said.
Further Mr Jadwet also added that ACCI’s intension is not only to create more publicity but also to create awareness on health and to keep our island clean and green. Mr Rahul Bose will continue to be the brand ambassador and efforts are being made to invite other sports and Bollywood celebrities as special guest. He said.
The registration charges for this year is Rs.500/- for Half Marathon & Rs.300/- for 10km event. The registration will be opened from 15th October, 2012 and participants can collect forms from the office of the Chamber and Netaji Stadium. Forms can also be downloaded from the website, www.andamanmarathon.com. The last date for registration is 10th November, 2012. The registered participants will also be provided with T-shirts and on successful completion certificates and medals would be distributed.
