Port Blair, Dec 16: Nearly two Kilometer long Traffic Jam was witnessed today between PS Baratang and Beach Dera areas of Baratang Island, after several heavy vehicles got stuck in muddy road surface.
Hundreds of ATR commuters and locals were stranded for several hours due to this causing stress and panic among public, especially those going towards Diglipur and Mayabunder.
Later an excavator was sent to remove the heavy vehicles which got stuck in loose mud, causing road blockage. It is learnt that by 5.00 PM the road was finally cleared. Later again at 6.30 PM another such incident was reported from Adazig area of Baratang, when another heavy vehicle got stuck in loose mud. It is learnt that some private truck removed the stuck heavy vehicle and cleared the road.
Recently after a protest at Baratang Islands, the NHIDCL has started road upgradation works at Baratang region for which huge amount of earth is being dumped on road and after heavy rain of yesterday and today the entire road stretch became nightmarishly slippery and muddy.
ATR commuters are demanding immediate intervention of Administration towards the alleged careless working style of NHIDCL, which is causing immense problems to the ATR commuters everyday.
