Port Blair, December 14: Witnessing a rise in number of tourists post Un-Lock and shortage of ferries services, the A & N Tourism Stakeholders Association today demanded additional government ferries for Shaheed and Swaraj Dweep.
In a letter addressed to the Deputy Commissioner South Andaman and the Director, Directorate of Shipping Services, Mr Vivek Singh, President of A & N Tourism Stakeholders Association said that there is no private ferry operating in Shaheed Dweep & Swaraj Dweep sector which are the main tourist spots of these islands”.
He further said that the tourism sector which was closed since March 2020 is the primary business in Andaman & Nicobar Islands and is the source of livelihood of thousands of individuals & families directly involved in the business, the sector is also the main source for passive growth of many other businesses which can’t survive without tourism.
The shortage of Ferry for travel to & fro Shaheed Dweep and Swaraj Dweep is the main constrain for development of tourism as the main points of attractions are still beyond the reach of tourists in absence of sufficient ferries.
Concluding Mr Singh requested that at least two ferries each in Shaheed & Swaraj Dweep sector per day may be operated immediately to streamline the move meant for tourists as of now.
