Port Blair, Dec 04: Finally the Southernmost landmass of India, the Great Nicobar Island yesterday got BSNL 4G Connectivity. The 4G signals brought cheers among the Islanders of the remote Islands.
A group of people from Fishermen Colony, headed by Mr. G Chandrashekhar, President of Fishermen association, Secretary Mr.G. Papa Rao, Cashier Mr. G Koteshwar Rao, today met the JTO of Great Nicobar Mr. Suman Saurabh and greeted him. They also conveyed greetings to the CGM, BSNL, A & N Circle, DC Nicobar District and AC Campbell Bay for all support.
On 16 November 2020 public of Campbell Bay had organised a strike and demanded for 4G connectivity for Great Nicobar after which the DC of Nicobar District had assured the protesting people to provide 4G connectivity and high speed internet through FTTH by the first week of January 2021.
“We are so happy that by the optimistic efforts of Nicobar Administration this dream became a reality in the first week of December and it is learnt from sources that FTTH services will also commence by 15 of this month,” said and Islander.
As per reports, immediately after the launch of 4G Service, the BSNL exchange of Campbell Bay started providing the 4G Sims to the customers and their employees were guiding the customers to convert their current SIMS into 4G. Huge beeline could be seen outside the BSNL office for new 4G SIM card.
