Port Blair, Dec 04: Mr. Ajoy Bairagi, State President, Bharatiya Janata Party, Andaman and Nicobar Islands has written a letter to the Lt. Governor of Andaman and Nicobar Islands, Secretary (Shipping & Transport), Andaman and Nicobar Administration, Deputy Commissioner, South Andaman, Deputy Commissioner, North & Middle Andaman, Deputy Commissioner, Nicobar, Director of Shipping Services, Andaman and Nicobar Administration and Director of Transport, Andaman and Nicobar Administration requesting them to resume the STS bus services between South Andaman and North and Middle Andaman and also to increase the frequency of ships and boats to various Islands.
Mr. Ajoy Bairagi in his letter has mentioned that busses, ships and boats are the lifelines of Andaman and Nicobar Islands and for a long time because of COVID-19 pandemic general public were restricted to their homes and the places of their stay but with the reduction in number of COVID-19 cases boats and shipping services has been resumed to an extent.
He further mentioned that the bus service between South Andaman and North and Middle Andaman is an important mode of transport for the Islanders, but this service has still not resumed and because of which the residents of both the districts are facing several issues.
Mr. Ajoy Bairagi reminded the that the Ministry of Home Affairs time and again through its guidelines have conveyed that movement of people and economic activities should not be restricted. He further mentioned that he is mindful of the containment zones but the adequate transportation facilities should be provided outside containment zones to bring back normalcy.
He requested the authorities to resume the STS bus services between South Andaman and North and Middle Andaman District as it existed before the pandemic and to also increase the frequency of all boats and ships connecting the inhabited Islands.
