Port Blair, Sep 07: Land sliding at Dollygunj near Polytechnic 2nd number gate due to heavy rainfall recently, is threatening people living in that area. Residents fears that more rain can result in further land sliding, which may even kill some innocent people.
Their houses sits on the bottom and top of an eroding slope that threatens to take them with it, if next time it breaks off again.
“On Sept 20th, a team of Disaster management and a Patwari visited the area to see the ground realities, but till date no action has been initiated,” a resident of Dollygunj told Andaman Sheekha.
“The houses are in jeopardy, it is sure as heavy rains come along, we’re going to have more sliding, unless something is done to stop the land sliding,” Another house owner added.
Hopefully the administration will take some steps to construct a retaining wall as the people over there can live without worries.
