Port Blair, Dec 02: Vehicle ferry, MV Lapathy rammed into Chatham Jetty this morning, which caused minor damages to one car and nearly a dozen of two-wheelers, present onboard the vehicle ferry. The cause of the accident is said to be heavy wind, which made navigation impossible for the master of the ferry.
The accident happened this morning when MV Lapathy Vehicle ferry, as per its normal schedule, after taking passengers from Bambooflat jetty was about to reach Chatham jetty.
Sources said that the master tried to control the vehicle ferry but due to heavy wind pressure, the ferry went out of control while berthing at Chatham Jetty.
Some fuming passengers expressed anguish over the issue following which police team and officers of Directorates Shipping Services reached the spot and spoke to the passengers and explained them about the ground realities.
