Port Blair, Dec 01: Heavy rainfall disrupted the normal life of the people of Little Andaman on 29th November, 2020, Sunday. Reports of water-logging came up from the ward no 4 and 5 of VK Pur area of Little Andaman because of which four families were shifted to VK Pur Community Hall.
Sources said that due to water-logging in low lying areas of V K Pur Village, people from four families were forced to shift out of their water-logged homes.
When Andaman Sheekha contacted a senior officer of Little Andaman, he said that there are two factors because of which water-logging was noticed, in which firstly there is no proper drainage system as the residents are not sharing the land and secondly there is a small dam in Rabinder Nagar adjacent to VK Pur, which overflowed and added to the water level.
He said that, when first time water-logging was reported the situation was handled by local residents and the Tehsilder Little Andaman but at around 2.00 AM in the morning again there was heavy rain which resulted in this situation.
“Following request of ex-PRI members, the affected families were shifted to the community hall. The police personnel and former Panchayat heads made arrangements for food and water for the families and next morning they were sent back to their homes,” the officer added.
As per sources, next day APWD officials alongwith the local residents came up with a solution to prevent the water logging in the region.
